The candidates stated, “We look forward to officially kicking-off our 2019 campaign at the picnic.  Our hope is that many voters – supporters and/or those who just want to learn more about our plans for borough government – will join us for friendly conversation and good food and drink.”

“In addition to the candidates, we expect Council members, Astri Baillie, Carmela Vitale, John Hoover and Debra Coen to attend,” stated former MDC Chairwoman and event chair, Melissa Elias.  “We have also invited Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill, our State Senator, Governor Dick Codey, Assemblywoman and Deputy Speaker Mila Jasey and Assemblyman John McKeon to join us.”  Jasey and McKeon represent New Jersey’s 27th Legislative District in the New Jersey State Assembly and are running for re-election in 2019.

Elias continued, “We have also invited Democratic candidate for Morris County Surrogate, Michael Thompson, our candidate for Morris County Sheriff, William Schievella, and Morris County Freeholder candidates Cara Parmigiani, David Timpanaro, and Cary Amaro to attend the picnic.”

“A suggested donation of $25 per person or $40 per couple is requested of attendees,” stated MDC Co-chairs, Alix Jennings and Christine Preston. “Donations can be made online at https://secure.actblue.com/donate/mdcfallpicnic or at madisonnjdems.com, at the door, or they can be sent to Mike Hilgendorff, Treasurer, 16 Carteret Ct., Madison N.J. 07940. A life-long resident of Madison, Bob Conley is running for his third term as its mayor. Prior to being elected Madison’s mayor in 2011, he served two three-year terms on Borough Council.  He has also served as chairman of the Chatham Joint Meeting Finance Committee and was founding chair of the Shared Services Committee with the Madison Board of Education and the Traffic Calming Committee.  Conley is a past chairman of the Madison Recreation Committee and was a member of the Open Space and Recreation & Historic Preservation Advisory Committees.

Councilwoman Byrne is a 25 year resident of Madison.  Throughout those years, she has held numerous volunteer positions in the community including membership on the Downtown Development Committee, Friends of the Madison Public Library, where she served two terms as its chair, Madison Rotary, and the Thursday Morning Club.  She is running for her second term on the Madison Borough Council and currently is the council liaison for the Public Works, Engineering and Finance departments and the Borough Clerk’s office.

Rachel Ehrlich is serving in her third year as a member of the Madison Planning Board, where she is a member of the Master Plan subcommittee.  A passionate architect who plans and prepares for the future and sees architects as being natural consensus builders because their work is human centered, she specializes in the design and construction of affordable homes for low- and moderate-income families.  She is grateful for the many benefits of living in Madison and is touched by the commitment of our many volunteers who have spurred her desire to give back in return. Her son will attend Madison public schools come September.

Elias concluded, “All Madison friends and residents are invited to come and meet our candidates for 2019: Mayor Bob Conley Councilwoman Maureen Byrne, and Planning Board member Rachel Ehrlich, as well as Council members Carmela Vitale, Astri Baillie, Debra Coen, and John Hoover, our representative in Washington, Mikie Sherrill, our representatives in Trenton: Dick Codey John McKeon and Mila Jasey and the Democratic candidates for Morris County Freeholder, Surrogate, and Sheriff at our kick-off picnic on Sunday, September 8th from 1:30 to 4 PM at 142 Ridgedale Avenue.
