In a joint statement, former Madison Borough Council Member Debra Coen and Council Member Tom Haralampoudis urge all Madison Democrats to vote in the June 10, Primary Election.
Coen is running for the council seat currently held by Rachel Ehrlich, who is not running for re-election. Haralampoudis is seeking re-election for a second term. The two are running as a team with the campaign slogan: “Your Voice, Our Commitment – Partnering for a Better Madison.”
In addition to the two Madison Borough Council seats, Democratic nominations for New Jersey Governor, two New Jersey Assembly seats, and three Morris County Committee seats will appear on the primary ballot along with district seats on the Morris County Democratic Committee. The only contested Democratic primary nomination for 2025 is the one for Governor.
In March, the elected members of the Morris County Democratic Committee overwhelmingly voted to endorse Representative Mikie Sherrill for the party’s nomination for Governor. In a separate vote in early May, members of the Madison Democratic also voted to endorse Sherrill.
Madison Democratic Committee co-chairs, Alix Jennings and Christine Preston stated: “Mikie Sherrill has long been an ally to Madison and delivered results for the entire district she represents. She has promised to drive down costs from health care to housing in New Jersey and will work to protect everything from our Social Security to our fundamental freedoms. And with all the chaos in Washington, New Jersey is going to need a strong governor who will stand up to the Trump administration.”
Voters who have not requested a mail-in ballot for the primary must vote in-person either at their assigned polling location on the June 10 Primary Election Day or at the early voting location in the Court Room at the Hartley Dodge Memorial at 50 Kings Road from Tuesday, June 3 through Saturday, June 7 from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM and on Sunday, June 8 from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Complete voter information is found at https://madisonnjdems.com/vote/.
“Voters who requested mail-in ballots, should have received them by now” stated Jennings and Preston. “We recommend that Madison democrats complete their ballots and returned them immediately utilizing the secure drop box located at the commuter parking lot off Kings Road behind the Public Safety Building.”
By state law, only registered Democrats can vote in the Democratic primary. Unaffiliated registered voters can vote in the primary by requesting a Political Party Affiliation Declaration Form from the poll workers, which they will then need to complete before they vote.
During her two council terms, Debra Coen served as the Finance and Borough Clerk liaison, Health Department liaison, and was on the Shared Services Committee. In her second term she spearheaded the renovation project that has brought Madison families a new, all-inclusive playground at Dodge Field.
During his first term on council, Tom Haralampoudis has served as liaison for the Electric Utility Committee, the Madison Board of Health, and Madison Board of Education.
Previously, he had served on the Madison Public Library Board of Trustees, the Madison Board of Health, and the board of HQM, Inc. (formerly the Madison Housing Corporation). He was also president of the Madison Junior School Sports Program, is a past chairman of the Madison Environmental Commission, served four years on the Madison Board of Education, and was a co-founder of the Sustainable Madison Advisory Committee.
