Successful Summer Social for Democrats

MADISON – It was the hottest day in the hottest July on record!  But the extreme heat and humidity didn’t stop supporters of Mayor Bob Conley, Councilmembers Bob Landrigan and John Forte, and Madison Planning Board member and Open Space, Recreation, and Historic Preservation Advisory Committee Chair Melissa Honohan from turning out in force for a July 28 backyard summer social held at the Synder family home on Prospect Street.

Mayor Bob Conley is running for a fourth four-year term as mayor. Councilmembers Bob Landrigan and John Forte are running for full three-year terms on the Madison Borough Council.  Melissa Honohan is running for a one-year term, which will complete the final year of former Councilmember Debra Coen’s term (through 2024). The four are running together as a team under the slogan: “Your Voice. Madison’s Future. Leading with Experience.”

Lending their support for the Madison candidates were State Senate candidate Christine Clarke, Assembly candidates Dr. Jonathan Torres and Madison’s own Diane Salvatore, candidate for Morris County Commission Jonathan Sackett, and candidate for Morris County Clerk Caroline O’Brien.

“And if the extreme early evening heat didn’t damp the spirits of the 60+ supporters of the Democratic candidates, it certainly underscored the need for Madison’s Climate Action Process first developed by the borough’s Climate Action Ad Hoc Committee late last year and memorialized in the borough’s Climate Action Resolution,” observed Madison Democratic Committee (MDC) Co-Chair Alix Jennings.

Madison’s Climate Action Process sets out specific and measurable energy related goals for the borough and puts Madison in a leadership role in achieving the state-wide climate action goals established in the Global Warming Response Act of 2007 (GWRA) and the NJ Energy Master Plan at the municipal level.

In their respective remarks, the candidates expressed the need for government – at the municipal, county, and state levels – to actively address climate change and to protect women’s right to choose, LBGTQ rights, and open space funding.  All emphasized the need for like-minded voters to fully support Democratic candidacies in this “off-year election” and to vote on November 7.
